Suisun means “West wind” in native American. The west winds blow in and cool the valley.
Only 8 miles long, Suisun was granted its AVA designation in 1982 just after Napa got theirs cutting out the small section of Suisun.
The valley is in between St. George Range and the Vaca Mountain range and has a semi- coastal, Mediterranean climate. Covering sedimentary bedrock are vineyard soils that contain silty loam and clay.
The Lanza family started making wine in the bucolic Suisun Valley southeast of Napa in 1944. In this case, they have produced a layered Sauvignon Blanc expression with hints of grass, tropical fruit, and minerality. This refreshing white pairs great with cheese and bread and is wonderful to enjoy on a sunny afternoon sitting in our park-like venue in the back of Scott’s Addition.
